The pop superstar heads to our shores for what promises to be two amazing shows.
ADAM LAMBERT has made a big impact on South Africa since his days on American Idol having sold over two million albums and 4.2 million singles worldwide. In light of his South African tour, People’s El Broide takes a look back at Adam’s career. After making a name for himself by coming second in the eighth season of American Idol, Adam Lambert pushed himself to be the limit became one of the most successful contestants to date. His debut album “For Your Entertainment” debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 195,000 copies in the US alone. The album has since spawned the smash hit singles “For Your Entertainment,” “Whataya Want From Me?” and “If I Had You.”
In November 2011, Adam took to the stage in the finale at the MTV European Music Awards to sing lead vocals with Queen, who were being awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Roger Taylor commented after that Adam is “a really great performer with an amazing voice.” He later joined Queen on tour and performed with them on their London UK drive as well as in Russia, Ukraine, and Poland.
Adam’s second album “Trespassing” was released in May this year, giving the pop star his first number one album, making him the first openly gay artist to do so in history, and selling 70,000 copies, which is considerably less than his debut. The album also performed very well internationally charting in all major territories and was met with positive reception from most music critics. The album has already spawned the hit singles “Better Than I Know Myself,” “Never Close Our Eyes,” and the recently released, “Trespassing.”
Adam is performing two shows in South Africa- on November 13th in Cape Town and November 15th in Johannesburg - which promises to be an incredibly visual and vocal performance. It’s no secret that even the most popular Idol contestants can be forgotten and Adam’s hard work, determination and the fact that he remains true to himself is the reason that this runner-up has become an international superstar.
