“Of course fame has changed my life. I mean your reality shifts a little bit. And I think on the plus side, all these opportunities come and I get to do what I love and people know about it and wanna hear more. And then the darker side of it is sometimes it gets overwhelming, sometimes affects your social life a little bit, cause you’re like ‘why do you wanna be friends with me?’ And sometimes too, you just wanna be able to go to the grocery store or go out shopping or go to a restaurant with your family and just be alone. But I’m not complaining cause it’s worth it.” -Adam Lambert

“When I got in the studio with Pharrell, I was super nervous and intimidated. And we started talking about life, and he was asking me some questions, and I was telling him that I felt like an outsider. I didn’t feel like I was a part of the music community and I wanted to be. And I felt like I just wanted to bust in there and do my thing in kind of a rebellious, aggressive way. And in just in life in general. My history’s always felt a little bit like that. I’ve always felt a little bit like on the outskirts of something. I’m always craving a sense of community. So we talked about that and I think he found the way in which he identified with me as being somebody that’s been different or having to kind of prove themselves. Then we wrote ‘Trespassing’ together. And then sonically, he was very much interested in kind of putting me into this early 80’s Queen kind of vibe. He was like ‘that’s where you need to be and it’s gonna be great!’ And it worked out really well! It’s one of my favorite songs on the album, for sure! What I love about it is it’s not trendy. It’s not what you’ve heard on the radio lately. It’s not following a formula and there’s something really refreshing about that and totally terrifying to the record company. But it’s a great song, regardless if it’s commercially successful or not, artistically I think it makes a big impact.” -Adam Lambert

“That’s the funny thing- I’d been out since I was 18. But when you all of a sudden, overnight, go into everybody’s TV sets and you’re a household name. Essentially with American Idol, you have to kind of go back and introduce some the of basics, like ‘what’s your sexuality?’ I was like the first out American pop star to sign a major mainstream thing. We’re in an interesting climate in America with sexuality. It’s a very hot issue right now. It presses a lot of buttons. And so at the time, that was a big milestone. And after that, with Trespassing, apparently I was the first out musician to have a number one album. I didn’t know that either. I didn’t know that these milestones hadn’t been met and actually was very surprised that it was me that was doing it.” -Adam Lambert ♥♥♥

“One of the things that I love about what I’m doing right now with my band, is that the focus is definitely the music. It’s the storytelling of the songs you’re doing and the grooves and the parts that the band play and these background singers. In the past, with my last tour, it was very theatrical- lots of costumes, I had dancers. And it was staged almost a little more like a theater piece. And this right now is a little bit different. It’s a bit more stripped back. It’s a bit more casual in its feel. It’s not planned out. It’s very organic and impulsive. Of course the fashion is still on point. It’s still A-Okay.” -Adam Lambert

“At the end of the day, why I make music and why I was in the studio for a year and a half wasn’t because I wanted to get to a certain place on the chart. That stuff didn’t really occur to me when I was working on my music, but when you do get success like that, it creates more opportunities, your music can be heard by more people and you get further chances to keep doing your thing. So I’m very excited. I worked really hard on this album. I obsessed over it. And I had involvement in all aspects of it, so I got a little crazy. But it feels like, with something like this- that we’re off to a really good start and it paid off. And the fans will love it. And it’s getting people dancing and having a good time. And what I love about the album is that it kind of has two different sides to it. There’s a kind of fun, silly, party side, attitude, kind of funk. And then a kind of a serious side. And you know, that’s real life. We’re all like that. We all have our good days and our bad days. We all have the persona that we like to project to the world. And we wanna make friends, and we wanna look good, and we wanna go out and have fun and feel fabulous, fierce and sexy. And meet other people that are like that. But then you know, underneath all that, sometimes we’re struggling with stuff. I think what I love about the album is that it balances. There’s a lot of balance in it.” -Adam Lambert

“Being compared to Freddie Mercury is a great compliment, obviously. I look up to the legacy that he left behind. Going back- in preparing for this concert, I looked at a lot of old footage and was just really impressed obviously by what he created in his live performances. Also as a songwriter- what he contributed. I’ve grown up listening to this and watching this band and idolizing him. But one of the interesting challenges of coming into this situation was how do I approach this without mimicking? Because to me, that would be a bit disrespectful both to the fans and to the other gentlemen in the band and also just as an artist, I wanna bring my own point of view and my own self to the table. So it’s been a really interesting kind of balancing act saying ‘okay this is a beautiful moment created, I don’t wanna change it, because changing it would also be a bit sac-religious, but making it my own at the same time.’ So it’s been a kind of coloring in between the lines, which has been a great challenge. I’ve learned a lot.” -Adam Lambert

“The biggest misconception about being famous is that it’s all glamor and you get everything you want and everybody opens the door for you. It’s work. It looks glamorous from the outside looking in, but it can actually make you kind of anxious and it can be a little overwhelming. And it can be kind of like ‘whoa’. You don’t have a lot of control over your environment. One of the things that I’ve heard before is kind of this sentiment people will say like ‘well you asked for it’. And I guess in a way, I did. But I don’t think anybody realizes what they’re asking for when they do something to become famous. The fame is really more of a side effect of what I’m doing.” -Adam Lambert

“I’m so happy that I have a platform and I can create music that affects people. I wanna inspire people- whether it’s to dance or to think about social issues. It’s a great opportunity that I have. I’m just gonna try to lead by example. And being honest and being who I am. Hopefully that inspires other people to be who they wanna be. I’ve never really liked the idea of being a role model in the sense that people do what I do. I hope that I can encourage people to do what they wanna do. And to be their own person.” -Adam Lambert

“My sexuality isn’t a big deal to me, so it’s always kind of funny how blown out of proportion it seems to get. But I do feel like we’re in a time where it is important to be visible. And in that visibility- to be comfortable and proud and confident about that very topic. Because what I think it does, is it gives young people courage and some strength. And hopefully maybe by me reaching this milestone with the charts, hopefully it gives young people the encouragement to shoot for their dreams.” -Adam Lambert
